In brief 

The subscription deadline for the UAE’s mandatory unemployment insurance scheme has been extended by three months from 30 June 2023 to 30 September 2023. All employees in the UAE (with a few exceptions) must register in the unemployment insurance scheme before 30 September 2023[1].

What’s next?

All employees in the UAE must enroll to the unemployment insurance scheme as follows:

  • If the employment contract was entered into prior to 30 May 2023, then the deadline for registration is 30 September 2023.
     
  • Employees who commenced work after 30 May 2023 must register within four months of the start date of employment.

The majority of employees will need to register and commence payment of insurance contributions by 30 September 2023.
